Metal Letter Canvas Art

I did this project this week.

I bought some metal letters at a yard sale this past spring, and after a summer away, they have still been sitting around waiting to be created into something fabulous.

I have a bunch of canvas, let's make word art!

I began really just getting the letters out and placing them on the canvas at random.  I realize some may think this isn't possible, but it is!  A tip as you are placing them, maybe check to see that there is equal distance around the perimeter as you place them, sort of framing them all into one look.  That may help you.  Play around until it looks good to you.

This is my first time using Gorilla Glue.  It says on the bottle the stuff expands a little so I took that into account as I started gluing my letters down.  I had to get a toothpick as it started oozing, to scrape it away.  I went with it...

Next, I place a book on top of the canvas, prior to flipping it. I wanted to weigh it down as it dried.

Then, since there is 'give' in the middle of the canvas I place a book in the center. Conveniently had this one laying around! :)

Then I weighed it down with more books until it was dry...

Well, that didn't work!!!  Crapper.  I got my exacto knife and got the letters off and scraped the foamy stuff off, ps, not so sure I like the Gorilla Glue!  Then, I went back to old faithful, the hot glue gun!  After I glued my letters on I took them out and sprayed the whole thing white.  I glued all but 4 letters, my kids initials.  I sprayed them a different color, then attached them after.

I chose blue, I think I'll hang this in our family room.  I like how it turned out!
