Let's Go Back...

To July of 2010.  This was the year I began my dumpster diving/furniture making over.  I am moving this post from MakesStuff to here...  These were some great projects...

So, I have yet another hobby! I am loving transforming furniture! I've never been one for garage sales much. I have been to a few in my neighborhood, mostly I'll go if I see it, I don't have time to search for them. A few weeks ago Q and I went out because our neighborhood was having one. I found some great things.

I found this old 'cedar chest' is what they called it. It's a box w/ wheels! It was covered in contact paper. I peeled that off and I sanded and painted it. I distressed it a bit and restained the edges. M put some wood dividers in w/ brackets and I now have a lovely shoe box for our front closet. The bottom of my closet was bugging me, ugly plastic bins and mess everywhere. I am so loving this instead.

Hmm, I think that's a weird shadow on there, the color really isn't like that.

There was another house a week later, that was moving and getting rid of a bunch of stuff. The lady took me into her stinky junk-filled house and I picked out a couple of dressers for $5 and $3. After I sanded and washed the stink out I painted this little jewel white and covered the top w/ paper. It sits in my craft room and has brought a bit more organization to my life. I still need to decide what to do w/ my $3 buy.

At some point I do intend to fill in those holes, but I just couldn't wait to buy putty!  Had to get it rockin'!

I got this table from Jackie Wright. I worked some magic and it's now in my front room.

My van has been parked outside our house (instead of in the garage) for a few weeks now. I may be almost done and ready to put it back in, although I did just find a great chair....

Since posting this I have gotten rid of our little red shoe box.  Well, I should say it's in the basement waiting for yet another purpose.  The kids shoes no longer fit in there!  I was going to pull the wood apart and use it individually, but as I set it on it's side to store it I realized I could store books or something in there.  We'll see.
The white dresser I moved up to our room.  Funny story because I moved it by myself, so I could move a larger dresser into my craft room!  I did that by myself too, up from the basement!  I couldn't wait for husband to get home!  Yes, I'm freakishly strong!  Love the dresser upstairs!  Should I post a photo of that?  Maybe.
The little yellow table is still in my entry.  Love this little treasure!
