Style Your BFF Day!

A few weeks ago my bff Molly and I felt we needed some girl time, as we often do.
We'd talked several times, about me coming over and going through her closet, to help her with her personal style.  We let the boys play and we headed up to her room.

I thought this would make a great post, so I brought my camera, and we played in her closet!
The purpose was for me to help her style things that she already owned, this helps me to not project my own style onto others :).  I showed her how to mix colors and pieces in new ways.  We got rid of things that can't be revived and made a list of items to look for while she is out shopping.

We also talked about her body shape and silhouettes that flatter, and one's that don't.
We went through shoes and accessories too.  We wrote down pieces that would benefit her whole wardrobe.  I love shoes and accessories.  They can add so much interest and color to what you are wearing... and I love color!  M needs some colored shoes!

We had SO much fun!  Really, I could do this like, every day!
She felt super excited that she has so many options in her closet that she didn't know was there.
I loved seeing her light up and feel beautiful.  You want that for those you love!
It was so great!

We started with this skirt... She didn't know what to wear with it, besides white or cream.
This blush color is a fav of mine right now.  And, I love it paired with a soft brown for spring.  Turns out she has a bunch of tops this color in her closet!  We talked about different cuts, with the waist of the skirt and what options look best...

Before I go on, have you been to Design-Seeds?  After you finish here GO THERE!  I'm sure you've seen these little color cards all over pinterest.  This is a FANTASTIC source for color inspiration.
Have a top and want to try something new with it?  Find the color on a card and pair it with something new.  It's fabulous!

Here is a card to help visualize the colors we used above.  Totally works right?

What about this one?  This top is great belted and 'belted' works great w/ Molly's figure.
And you can see it fits right in with this color card.

In this case and the look previous, you can see that we paired a more blousy top w/ a slim bottom.
For those of us that are more conscious of our center or waist, go ahead and wear a fluttery or loose top, but if you go baggy on the bottom you could look like the Michelin man!
Be sure to show you are under there by going more fitted on the bottom when you are loose on the top.

This next look is fun because it happened by chance.  M started pulling out old stuff to throw out and this vest was part of a little pant suit... remember the 90's?  :)
I told her keep that vest, you can make that work again!

We paired it w/ this animal print and a skirt, but it could work belted, w/ jeans and heels.
Sometimes the things you keep for so long DO come back around!

Here are some combos I put together for her.
Spring is perfect for layering and layering is perfect for interest!
Again, a whole new world for her... never thought to put many of these together...

This one may have been her fav... She's already worn it!  This cardi is great!  It goes w/ a ton in her closet.

Your clothes can be the perfect way to glean color inspiration!
Take this purple top below... see how many colors are in there?  Use that to help you w/ your blue top, wear it w/ purple shoes and a coral necklace...

I love these tissue cardi's.  If you have a top that feels a little tight, throw one on.  It gives that little extra coverage, especially on the days you've had 2 too many cupcakes (me yesterday!).

I love this color combo... all of my marketing or my photog business is done w/ this.  Heart it!

And because I love it so much, here it is on the card!

This skirt had M stumped.  She'd only wear it w/ her gray top.
Look at this color combo...

Bam!

Here are a couple more combos I can't get enough of right now...

How was that for you?  Feeling inspired?
Wondering where to start?
Start with copying!  I'm serious!  Go to your closet, see if you have items that fit into these colors and start pairing them up!  You can do it.

And, come back and tell me about your success!

One last shot of direct color translations.
